Now, let’s get into what to watch for:
- No. 20 seed Pablo Tellez withdrew from men’s singles competition Tuesday morning for undisclosed reasons. He was supposed to play against No. 45 seed Pesa Teoni, who will advance to the Round of 32 and play either Jack Sock or Stephen Madonia on Wednesday. Tellez is still expected to compete in mixed doubles with Chao Yi Wang and men’s doubles with Jonathan Truong. This is the second notable withdrawal from the men’s singles field after No. 5 seed Ben Johns withdrew from the event on Monday with an illness.
- An intriguing first-round matchup in the women’s singles draw features No. 19 seed Layne Sleeth taking on No. 48 seed Seone Mendez. Sleeth is fresh off a career-best semifinal run in Las Vegas, while Mendez captured her second straight Challenger title over the weekend at the Citrus Classic PPA Challenger in Kissimmee, FL.
- Zoey Weil/Wyatt Stone are running it back in mixed doubles after making the Round of 16 last time out in Las Vegas. During that run, they pulled off three-game upsets over Lauren Stratman/Julian Arnold and Tina Pisnik/Jaume Martinez Vich. The No. 43 seeds will look to have similar success this week and will start off their campaign on Tuesday against No. 22 seeds Mary Brascia/Julian Arnold.
Live broadcast coverage from Lindner Family Tennis Center begins at 10am ET on Pickleballtv.
