4 things to watch for on Wednesday at the Select Medical Orange County Cup
The Select Medical Orange County Cup presented by Reign Storm continues on Wednesday with Round of 32 action in all five pro events.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- Rafael Lenhard stole the show in San Clemente on Tuesday with an 11-6, 14-12 victory over No. 4 seed Ben Johns. The No. 61 seed will look to keep it going when he faces No. 37 seed Zane Navratil with a spot in the Round of 16 on the line.
- Four men’s doubles pairings from Monday’s qualifying rounds picked up wins in the Round of 64. Here’s who each one beat, and who they’ll face on Wednesday:
- Jonathan Truong/Sammy Lee def. No. 17 Rafa Hewett/Juan Benitez 12-10, 11-9.
- They will face No. 9 seeds Roscoe Bellamy/Matt Wright.
- Callan Dawson/Etienne Blaszkewycz def. No. 22 Ryan Fu/Max Freeman 8-11, 11-8, 11-7.
- They will face No. 11 seeds Travis Rettenmaier/Connor Garnett.
- Brandon Nsekpong/Austin Bricker def. No. 23 John Cincola/Daniel de la Rosa 11-3, 4-11, 11-3.
- They will face No. 12 seeds Spencer Smith/Tyler Loong.
- Sergey Afanasenka/Alex Emery def. No. 20 Donald Young/Todd Fought 11-4, 5-11, 11-6.
- They will face No. 10 seeds Hunter Johnson/Augie Ge.
- Match to Watch (Men’s Singles): No. 7 Dylan Frazier v. No. 35 Max Freeman
- Frazier is fresh off a semifinal run in Atlanta, but the lefty Freeman has proven that he can compete with the best with victories over Connor Garnett and Jack Sock. He also made the semifinals in Cape Coral earlier this season. I think this matchup will end up being much closer than most would expect given the seeds.
- Match to Watch (Mixed Doubles): No. 11 Lacy Schneemann/Tyson McGuffin v. No. 17 Kate Fahey/Noe Khlif
- It is mind-boggling that this is a Round of 32 matchup. Schneemann/McGuffin have made deep runs at several tournaments together, and Fahey/Khlif have both brought massive improvement to their doubles games in 2025. I think this one is a true toss-up.
Action begins at 10am PT on Pickleballtv.
