5 things to watch for on Friday at MLP Daytona Beach

MLP Daytona Beach continues on Friday with seven matches across Toray Championship Court and Grandstand Court at Pictona at Holly Hill.

The Chicago Slice, Texas Ranchers, Carolina Hogs, and SoCal Hard Eights will play their first matches on Friday.

Here is the full slate of matches:

Now, let’s get into what to watch for:

  • Speaking of the Hustlers, they will have on-site alternate AJ Koller filling in for Zane Ford. Ford was forced to take a medical timeout during New York’s match against Utah on Thursday, so it isn’t entirely surprising to see him miss a contest. This absence comes at an inopportune time for New York, though, since they are already without usual starter Donald Young for this event. Koller will play men’s doubles with Stephen Madonia and mixed doubles with Dominique Schaefer as the Hustlers take on Chicago and SoCal.

  • The Texas Ranchers will begin their Florida campaign on Friday with matches against the Carolina Hogs and Utah Black Diamonds. I will be watching their women’s doubles pairing of Etta Tuionetoa/Tina Pisnik especially closely. They have lost three matches in a row and have only a 4-4 record so far this season after going 21-13 in 2024. It’s true that they’ve played a collection of some of the toughest women’s doubles teams so far in Dallas, New Jersey, Columbus, and Brooklyn (who they beat), but they will nevertheless be looking to find their groove in Daytona Beach.

  • The SoCal Hard Eights will be looking to build on their first winning effort of the season in Phoenix, where they beat the Phoenix Flames in their final match of the weekend. The mixed doubles pairing of Blaine Hovenier/Irina Tereschenko has been the X-factor for this team so far and has a 5-2 record together. Hovenier also picked up a memorable win over the Dallas Flash’s Tyra Black/Augie Ge alongside Jalina Ingram in Phoenix. He will be looking to have another big week in Florida, while new addition Roscoe Bellamy continues to recover from a foot injury.
