7:00pm: Wright, Dizon outlasts Koop, Jd. Kawamoto to make semis

Etta Wright and Meghan Dizon battled past No. 5 seeds Andrea Koop and Jade Kawamoto and came away with an 11-7, 6-11, 11-6 to get one match closer to Championship Sunday.

The encountered featured several lengthy rallies, as the counterpunching abilities of Koop and Kawamoto made it incredibly difficult for Wright and Dizon to earn points.

The No. 2 seeds are looking to make their first final together since the Mesa Arizona Cup in February. They'll return to Championship Sunday with a victory over No. 9 seeds Jorja Johnson and Mari Humberg in the semifinals.

The other semifinal will pit top seeds Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher against No. 4 seeds Jackie Kawamoto and Lucy Kovalova.

5:40pm: Patriquin, Tellez take down top seeds in two games

Hayden Patriquin and Pablo Tellez are into the men’s doubles semifinals after a 12-10, 11-5 victory over top seeds Dylan Frazier and JW Johnson.

This is the second tournament that Patriquin and Tellez have played together, and they’ve managed to take out the top seeds in both events.

It was the Johns bros in San Clemente, and now Frazier and Johnson in Salt Lake City.

This week has been an especially strong showing for Tellez, who made the semis in mixed doubles with Mari Humberg on Friday.

“I’ve been putting in the work for a while, and I think it just took a little longer to level up,’ he said of his rising level. “And having Hayden next to me definitely helps, too.”

The No. 5 seeds will face No. 8 seeds Andrei Daescu and Gabriel Tardio for a spot in Sunday’s final.

The other semifinal will pit No. 6 seeds Federico Staksrud and Augie Ge against No. 3 seeds James Ignatowich and Matt Wright.

3:30pm: Johnson, Humberg outlast Jansen, Pisnik to make quarters

Jorja Johnson and Mari Humberg overcame a slow start to earn a 4-11, 11-4, 12-10 victory over No. 4 seeds Tina Pisnik and Lea Jansen

The No. 9 seeds found themselves down a game and trailing 0-4, but they ended Game 2 on an 11-0 run to bring on the decider.

They went on to earn a 10-4 advantage in Game 3; Jansen and Pisnik did bring it all the way back to 10-10, but Humberg and Johnson held strong and escaped with the victory.

They will face No. 3 seeds and local favorites Callie Smith and Allyce Jones in the quarterfinals.

12:00pm: Bar, C. Johns survive against Freeman, Fu

Dekel Bar and Collin Johns narrowly avoided a massive upset in their first match of the day against No. 31 seeds Max Freeman and Ryan Fu with a 9-11, 11-1, 12-10 victory.

The No. 2 seeds had to overcome a 6-9 deficit in the deciding game to pull out the win.

Even though they don't play together often with C. Johns usually partnering with his brother Ben, Bar and Johns do have a medal together: a silver at the 2023 Red Rock Open.

They'll be looking to make it back to Championship Sunday with a few more wins on Saturday.
