6:50pm ET: Flames fight past Slice in DreamBreaker

The Phoenix Flames (2-6, 7pts) outlasted the Chicago Slice (2-6, 8pts) in a DreamBreaker in the final match of the weekend.

After Chicago’s Callie Smith/Vivienne David earned the women’s doubles point for the Slice, the Flames’ Jack Sock/Tyson McGuffin took on James Ignatowich/Max Freeman in men’s doubles.

In that contest—which Sock/McGuffin won comfortably—Ignatowich tagged Sock in the shoulder, a move that didn’t sit well with the four-time Grand Slam winner.

“Yeah, he gave me a nice little love tap there in men’s doubles, but it is what it is—it’s part of the game,” Sock said after the match. “I thought we had targeting rules, but I guess not. So, I guess it’s free reign from here on out.”

For clarification, the rules on targeting that were announced by UPA-A in February are no longer in effect.

After teams split the two mixed doubles matches, Sock had a chance get revenge on Ignatowich on the singles court, which he did by outscoring him 9-3 through three rotations.

That performance helped the Flames ultimately triumph 21-16 and earn their second win of the season.

Phoenix will next be in action at MLP Phoenix later this month, while Chicago will take the court again at MLP Salt Lake City in early June.

4:25pm ET: Sliders stop skid, sweep Bouncers

The Columbus Sliders (7-4, 20pts) closed out their hometown event with a 4-0 sweep of the Atlanta Bouncers (3-6, 8pts).

Columbus had dropped its two most previous matches coming into Sunday, but they were able to right the ship and deliver an impressive performance in front of their fans.

One of the biggest storylines for the Sliders this week was the absence of CJ Klinger, who missed all five of the team’s matches with the flu.

Roscoe Bellamy—the Sliders’ third rostered male—filled in for Klinger and helped the team achieve a 3-2 record.

“It’s been a wild week,” he said. “We love having CJ on our team, and unfortunately, he wasn’t feeling good this week. I know he wanted to be out here, especially with this event being in Columbus, but I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to step up. I’ve just got a lot of awesome people around me. We have a really good team and good relationships all around, so that make it easy.”

Columbus will next be in action at MLP San Clemente, scheduled for June 26-29.

4:15pm ET: Chicago Slice (A) v. Phoenix Flames (H): Pre-Match Notes

The Chicago Slice (2-5, 7pts) will face the Phoenix Flames (1-6, 5pts) in the weekend’s loan edition of Sunday Night Pickleball at Pickle & Chill.

Both teams will be looking to rebound from losses earlier in the day; Chicago fell to the Orlando Squeeze in a DreamBreaker, while Phoenix was swept by the St. Louis Shock.

Here are the individual matchups for the contest:

3:05pm ET: Miami rebounds, sweeps shorthanded Hogs

The Miami Pickleball Club (6-5, 16pts) ended its time in central Ohio with a 4-0 sweep of the Carolina Hogs (0-8, 2pts).

Miami fell to the Atlanta Bouncers in a tight DreamBreaker earlier Sunday morning, but they rebounded to dominate a shorthanded Carolina squad that was without usual starters Ben Johns, Collin Johns, and Kaitlyn Christian.

Both teams have now played all of their matches on the weekend. Miami will next be in action at MLP Austin, while Carolina won't take the court again until MLP Salt Lake City.

2:20pm ET: Columbus Sliders (A) v. Atlanta Bouncers (H): Pre-Match Notes

The Columbus Sliders (6-4, 17pts) will face the Atlanta Bouncers (3-5, 8pts).

Columbus has been swept in their last two matches against the Orlando Squeeze and St. Louis Shock after previously winning six in a row.

The Sliders will again be without CJ Klinger, who has missed every match this weekend with the flu. Roscoe Bellamy will take his place in the lineup.

On the other side of the court, Atlanta is coming off a DreamBreaker victory over the Miami Pickleball Club and will be looking to end their weekend by going 2-0.

Here are the individual matchups for the contest:

1:55pm ET: Squeeze outduel Slice in DreamBreaker

The Orlando Squeeze (8-2, 22pts) defeated the Chicago Slice (2-5, 7pts) early Sunday afternoon.

The Squeeze were swept by the league-leading St. Louis Shock on Saturday, but they put that loss behind them, thanks to an inspired performance from Federico Staksrud.

He won both his men’s doubles and mixed doubles matches with Dylan Frazier and Lacy Schneemann, respectively, and then went on to outscore James Ignatowich 11-1 through three rotations to help Orlando to a 21-17 triumph.

Orlando will close out their Columbus campaign against the New York Hustlers later Sunday afternoon, while Chicago will face the Phoenix Flames in tonight's edition of Sunday Night Pickleball.

1:45pm ET: Miami Pickleball Club (A) v. Carolina Hogs (H): Pre-Match Notes

The Miami Pickleball Club (5-5, 13pts) will take on the Carolina Hogs (0-7, 2pts).

Miami will look to rebound from a DreamBreaker loss to the Atlanta Bouncers from earlier Sunday morning, while Carolina will look to secure its first win of the season.

As has been the case for all of the Hogs’ matches this weekend, on-site alternates Martin Emmrich, Ross Whittaker, and Zoey Weil will take the court as starters.

Here are the individual matchups for the contest:

12:35pm ET: St. Louis Shock (A) v. New York Hustlers (H): Pre-Match Notes

The St. Louis Shock (7-0, 20pts) will do battle against the New York Hustlers (2-3, 5pts).

This is the second leg of a back-to-back for St. Louis after sweeping the Phoenix Flames earlier Sunday morning. The Shock have been on fire in Columbus and haven’t dropped a game in their past three matches.

New York has very quietly reeled off two wins in a row, having beaten Phoenix on Friday and the Carolina Hogs on Saturday.

Win No. 3 will be hard to come by against the Shock.

Here are the individual matchups for the contest:

11:50am ET: Late run helps Atlanta hand Miami first DreamBreaker loss

The Atlanta Bouncers (3-5, 8pts) kicked off Sunday’s action with a thrilling DreamBreaker victory over the Miami Pickleball Club (5-5, 13pts).

Two wins from Jaume Martinez Vich helped Atlanta force the DreamBreaker; he triumphed with Todd Fought in men’s doubles and Vivian Glozman in mixed doubles.

Miami struck first in the deciding contest and earned an 11-5 lead at the side switch, thanks to Milan Rane’s 4-0 rotation over Glozman.

From there, though, it was all Atlanta; the Bouncers pulled off five consecutive 3-1 rotations to get match point at 20-16.

Miami did bring it back to 20-20, but Glozman was able to close it out against Rane a few moments later to hand Miami its first DreamBreaker loss.

There was a controversial moment on match point.

With match point at 21-20, Glozman hit a serve that Rane failed to return. Rane appeared to signal an ‘out’ call of the serve, but after review, the referees determined that there was no clear ‘out’ call before Rane made contact with the ball.

That ruling secured the win for Atlanta.

Both teams have one more match to play on Sunday, with Miami set to face the Carolina Hogs and Atlanta scheduled to take on the Columbus Sliders.

11:20pm ET: Orlando Squeeze (A) v. Chicago Slice (H): Pre-Match Notes

The Orlando Squeeze (7-2, 20pts) will square off against the Chicago Slice (2-4, 6pts).

Both teams went 1-1 on Saturday in central Ohio; Orlando beat the Atlanta Bouncers and fell to the St. Louis Shock, while Chicago beat the Carolina Hogs and fell to the Miami Pickleball Club.

Here are the individual matchups for the contest:

10:45am ET: Phoenix Flames (A) v. St. Louis Shock (H): Pre-Match Notes

The Phoenix Flames (1-5, 5pts) will take on the St. Louis Shock (6-0, 17pts) in the opening match of the day on Toray Championship Court.

Phoenix has dropped three straight matches in Columbus after earning their first win of the season over Carolina on Thursday.

St. Louis, on the other hand, is coming off a near-flawless Saturday that saw them sweep both the Columbus Sliders and Orlando Squeeze. They will be heavily favored in this matchup.

Here are the individual matchups for the contest:

9:55am ET: Atlanta Bouncers (A) v. Miami Pickleball Club (H): Pre-Match Notes

The Atlanta Bouncers (2-5, 6pts) will face the Miami Pickleball Club (5-4, 12pts in the first match of the day at Pickle & Chill.

The Bouncers have dropped two in a row after beating the Carolina Hogs in regulation on Friday morning, so they will be looking to regain their groove.

Miami, on the other hand, has won two matches in a row after beating the Phoenix Flames and Chicago Slice on Saturday.

Here are the individual matchups for the contest:
