Ben Johns/Gabe Tardio narrowly advanced to the men's doubles semi-finals, coming away with an 11-13, 11-9, 11-7 victory over No. 11 seeds Connor Garnett/Tyler Loong.
The contest put the first-time partnership of Johns/Tardio up against one of the best lefty-righty duos in the game in Garnett/Loong, which gave them some new looks.
"They're an interesting team," Johns said. "You almost can't go too wide on Connor because he's good at making that backhand ATP, and then just because of the lefty that's in front of you, the spots to attack are a little bit different."
Things didn't look great for the No. 2 seeds when they trailed 3-5 in the deciding game, but they used a six-point run to create the necessary separation to close out the match.

They will face No. 3 seeds Pablo Tellez/Dylan Frazier for a spot in the finals.

Top seed Anna Leigh Waters easily defeated No. 7 Catherine Parenteau 11-6, 11-0 on Humana Championship Court to advance to the semis.
It took under 27 minutes for Waters to eliminate her women's doubles partner from the singles draw.
"It's really tough [facing Catherine]. I was in the bathroom texting my mom, I'm like, 'I've got to go out there with no mercy, but it's so hard.' When I see Catherine, I just want to talk to her during the match," said Waters with a laugh. "I definitely respect her game a lot. She had some insane gets. Definitely every time we face off, I remember all the insane matches we've had. Catherine's been in the sport for a long time. She's a great singles player, so to play her in the quarters is kind of a bummer. If we're going to play, I'd much rather play her in a final or at least a semi-final."
The 18-year-old superstar will face the winner of the match between No. 4 Lea Jansen and No. 6 Kate Fahey in the next round.
No. 3 Brooke Buckner also reached the semi-finals with an 11-2, 11-7 victory over No. 8 Mary Brascia.
