6:45 p.m. CT: Improbable comeback helps Johnson, Frazier survivie upset bid from Diamond, Freeman
Most teams will lose a game when they're down 0-6. But JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier—the No. 2 seeds in this week's men's doubles draw—are not most teams.
They did get down 0-6 in Game 3 of their match against No. 28 seeds Casey Diamond/Max Freeman, but they came all the way back to prevent the upset and steal an 11-5, 7-11, 12-10 victory after saving one match point.
This win is a nice, albeit stressful, end to the day for Johnson, who is celebrating his 22nd birthday. He advanced to the Round of 16 in men's singles, mixed doubles, and men's doubles.
Johnson/Frazier will face No. 13 seeds Hunter Johnson/Rafa Hewett on Thursday with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
5:30 p.m. CT: Bellamy withdraws from singles due to foot injury
Roscoe Bellamy is withdrawing from the men's singles draw with a foot injury.
He made the Round of 16 after an 11-8, 5-11, 11-2 victory over Todd Fought on Wednesday, but he made the decision to end his tournament early on Wednesday afternoon.
This means that No. 8 seeds Hunter Johnson will move into the quarterfinals, where he'll face either Connor Garnett or qualifier Oliver Frank.
4:45 p.m. CT: Sock, Shick advance to Round of 16 in three games
There must be something about three-game victories that is particularly enjoyable for Jack Sock and Collin Shick, since both of their wins this week have required a deciding game.
Their latest 8-11, 11-7, 11-3 triumph over No. 16 seeds Pesa Teoni/Craig Johnson puts them into Wednesday’s Round of 16.
They will next face No. 3 seeds Matt Wright/Federico Staksrud.
3:55 p.m. CT: Glozman, Frazier battle past Schneemann, Tardio in mixed doubles
Vivian Glozman/Dylan Frazier are into the mixed doubles Round of 16 after an 8-11, 11-8, 11-1 victory over No. 12 seeds Lacy Schneemann/Gabe Tardio.
The No. 19 seeds dropped a tightly contested first game, but they responded well in the second and evened the match.
From there, they jumped out to an 8-0 lead in Game 3 that helped them close out the encounter.
They will face No. 7 seeds Tina Pisnik/Dekel Bar on Thursday with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
3:15 p.m. CT: Mg. Brascia wins 'Sister Showdown' in mixed doubles, makes R16 with McGuffin
Maggie and Mary Brascia are used to sharing the court together as sisters and women's doubles partners, but they were competitors in mixed doubles on Wednesday afternoon.
Mg. Brascia/Tyson McGuffin came out on top, defeating My. Brascia/Pablo Tellez by an 11-3, 11-6 score line to make the Round of 16 mixed doubles.
The Brascia sisters—who earned silver at this tournament in 2023-will be back in action together later Wednesday night when they face No. 20 seeds Ava Ignatowich/Rachel Rettger.
3:00 p.m. CT: Truong, Garnett send Dizon, Daescu packing
