Race to the Finals Update: Slim margins in women’s doubles and men’s singles
The 2025-2026 PPA Tour season is winding down with only two main circuit events remaining, but the upcoming tournaments in Sacramento and Atlanta might just be the most important of the entire campaign.
That’s because they’re the final two events where players can earn points to qualify for the PPA Tour Finals, which will take place May 4-10 in San Clemente, CA and put a bow on the PPA Tour season.
The Finals is a unique, invite-only event that is reserved for the top-performing players in each discipline and follows a pool play format instead of a traditional bracket.
To qualify, a player must be inside the top 8 (singles, mixed doubles) or top 16 (gender doubles) in the Race rankings, which takes into account the total number of standings points earned since the 2025 Atlanta Pickleball Championships, which took place last May.
The Race rankings are based off of the total number of points earned throughout the season, which means that if a player competes at more events, he or she has the potential to earn more points. This is different from the PPA rankings, which consider only results from the past 52 weeks and adjust as points roll off from tournament to tournament.
There will be 3,000 points up for grabs over the course of the next two events: the Fasenra Sacramento Open worth 1,000 points and the Veolia Atlanta Pickleball Championships, a slam worth 2,000 points.
With how tight some of the races are for the final qualifying spots in each event, every match is sure to matter down the stretch.
In this article, I will provide the latest Race rankings, highlight the players who have already qualified for the Finals in each discipline, and discuss what will be at stake at next week’s event in Northern California.
Let’s get to work.
Women’s Singles (Top 8 qualify)
- 1. Anna Leigh Waters: 17,500
- 2. Kate Fahey: 13,000
- 3. Kaitlyn Christian: 11,600
- 4. Brooke Buckner: 9,600
- 5. Lea Jansen: 7,850
- 6. Catherine Parenteau: 6,200
- 7. Chao Yi Wang: 5,100
- 8. Genie Bouchard: 4,400
- 9. Parris Todd: 3,900
- 10. Judit Castillo: 3,850
- 11. Liz Truluck: 3,775
Genie Bouchard currently occupies the final qualifying spot in women’s singles, but she has not played an event since February’s Mesa Cup and is not in the draw for Sacramento.
With Parris Todd still keeping herself out of singles draws to focus on doubles, Judit Castillo will have a prime opportunity to make up some ground next week.
She will be the No. 5 seed in a singles draw that will notably be missing both Anna Leigh Waters and Brooke Buckner.
Women’s Doubles (Top 16 qualify)
- 1. Anna Leigh Waters: 21,700
- 2. Anna Bright: 21,300
- 3. Tyra Black: 14,200
- 4. Jorja Johnson: 12,375
- 5. Catherine Parenteau:12,050
- 6. Parris Todd: 11,700
- 7. Rachel Rohrabacher: 9,650
- 8. Jade Kawamoto: 8,700
- 9. Lacy Schneemann: 7,025
- 10. Jackie Kawamoto: 6,350
- 11. Tina Pisnik: 6,300
- 12. Meghan Dizon: 5,800
- 13. Chao Yi Wang: 5,400
- 14. Kaitlyn Christian: 5,200
- 15. Jessie Irvine: 4,650
- 16. Kate Fahey/Alix Truong: TIED at 4,600
- 17. Etta Tuionetoa (18th): 4,550
- 18. Callie Smith (19th): 4,250
- 19. Lea Jansen/Mari Humberg (20th): TIED at 4,000
Women’s doubles is arguably the closest race, with just 100 points separating Jessie Irvine in 15th place and Etta Tuionetoa in 18th place.
Of particular note is the competition between Kate Fahey and Alix Truong, who are tied for the final qualifying spot at 4,600 points. Truong is not competing in Sacramento, so Fahey will have a big opportunity to secure her spot in San Clemente as she teams up with Lacy Schneemann next week.
Callie Smith/Lea Jansen are on the outside looking in as it stands, but they are playing together and would both benefit from a deep run. Finally, Mari Humberg, who is tied with Jansen, is teaming up with Milan Rane for the first time since their 4th-place finish at last month’s Texas Open.
With Anna Leigh Waters and Anna Bright sitting this tournament out, there’s an added opportunity for one of these teams to stack points—and momentum—heading into Atlanta.
Women’s Mixed Doubles (Top 8 qualify)
- 1. Anna Leigh Waters: 21,200
- 2. Anna Bright: 15,100
- 3. Jorja Johnson: 13,350
- 4. Tyra Black: 7,100
- 5. Jessie Irvine: 5,850
- 6. Catherine Parenteau: 5,100
- 7. Tina Pisnik: 4,875
- 8. Parris Todd: 4,150
- 9. Rachel Rohrabacher: 4,100
- 10. Kate Fahey/Alix Truong: TIED at 4,000
- 11. Kaitlyn Christian (12th): 3,250
Women’s mixed doubles is another close race, with Parris Todd holding a 50-point advantage over Rachel Rohrabacher for the final qualifying spot. Todd will team up with Andrei Daescu in Sacramento, while Rohrabacher will join forces with Gabe Tardio.
Interestingly, Kate Fahey and Alix Truong are also tied in mixed doubles at 4,000 points each. Truong will not be in Sacramento, but Fahey will play alongside Federico Staksrud.
Fahey/Staksrud and Rohrabacher/Tardio could face off in the quarterfinals in a matchup that could have massive implications for who makes it to San Clemente.
Men’s Singles (Top 8 qualify)
- 1. Chris Haworth: 13,600
- 2. Federico Staksrud: 12,950
- 3. Hunter Johnson: 11,575
- 4. Christian Alshon: 9,250
- 5. Connor Garnett: 6,675
- 6. Roscoe Bellamy: 5,287.5
- 7. John Lucian Goins: 5,000
- 8. Jack Sock: 4,950
- 9. Gabe Joseph: 4,900
- 10. Noe Khlif: 3,750
- 11. Jaume Martinez Vich: 3,600
Just 100 points separate John Lucian Goins in the 7th spot from Gabe Joseph in the 9th spot. Goins will not be in Sacramento, so next week will be a huge opportunity for both Jack Sock and Joseph to overtake the 18-year-old.
Sock and Joseph are on the same side of the bracket and could face off in what would be a must-watch semifinal, but they would have to get through Chris Haworth and Hunter Johnson, respectively, to make that matchup happen.
Men’s Doubles (Top 16 Qualify)
- 1. Gabe Tardio: 20,700
- 2. Ben Johns: 20,500
- 3. Christian Alshon: 14,800
- 4. Hayden Patriquin: 14,200
- 5. Andrei Daescu: 13,300
- 6. Federico Staksrud: 12,900
- 7. JW Johnson: ALSO 12,900
- 8. CJ Klinger: 11,500
- 9. Eric Oncins: 7,400
- 10. Dylan Frazier: 6,250
- 11. Tyson McGuffin: 5,550
- 12. Jay Devilliers: 5,450
- 13. Noe Khlif: 4,375
- 14. Riley Newman: 4,312.5
- 15. Matt Wright: 4,225
- 16. Jaume Martinez Vich: 4,150
- 17. Augie Ge: 4,075
- 18. Connor Garnett: 3,200
Jaume Martinez Vich and Augie Ge—who made a PPA Tour final together back in 2024—are neck-and-neck for the final qualifying spot, with Martinez Vich possessing a slight advantage.
Both players will compete next week, with Martinez Vich teaming up with Blaine Hovenier and Ge partnering with Dekel Bar.
Both players could overtake No. 15 Matt Wright with a deep run, since he is not competing in Sacramento.
Men’s Mixed Doubles (Top 8 qualify)
- 1. Ben Johns: 22,2000
- 2. JW Johnson: 13,150
- 3. Hayden Patriquin: 12,150
- 4. Andrei Daescu: 8,450
- 5. Christian Alshon: 8,300
- 6. Gabe Tardio: 7,100
- 7. Federico Staksrud: 5,450
- 8. Noe Khlif: 4,4550
- 9. Eric Oncins: 4,100
- 10. Jonathan Truong: 3350
This race figures to come down to Noe Khlif and Eric Oncins, although Jonathan Truong has an outside chance of overtaking both of them with strong results over the next two events.
All three players will be in action in Sacramento, with Khlif teaming up with Meghan Dizon, Oncins playing alongside Tyra Black, and Truong partnering with Jessie Irvine.
More than just medals will be on the line in Sacramento and Atlanta.
